Geoff Boucher’s piece on Bruce Springsteen and his new tour was remarkably well done.
Usually, newspaper pieces on Springsteen tend to fawn. It’s extremely tiresome to keep reading hagiographies by journalists who write that Springsteen’s a legend merely because they think that’s what they’re supposed to be saying about him. Instead, these writers should be looking for what Bruce is about now, what’s good and what’s bad about him, what’s working and what isn’t about the new material. His article did this, and I was kind of surprised. It presented a well-balanced view of the man and his work, highlighting the fact that Springsteen is genuinely earnest, an attribute that informs all of his decisions, both good and bad.
Boucher got some fantastic quotes -- getting him to talk about things that aren’t part of his usual bag of sound bites is not so easy these days.

Anyone who has seen Springsteen live will never want to miss an opportunity to see not only one of the greatest live performers but a true poet of our times. Even in hard financial times, Bruce has kept his prices reasonable and gives you more than your money’s worth.
