Cleveland 10, at New York 2: Jhonny Peralta broke a seventh-inning tie with a two-run double off Jose Veras and Grady Sizemore hit a grand slam into the right-field seats off Damaso Marte as the Indians won the first game at the new Yankee Stadium. Victor Martinez also homered in Cleveland’s nine-run seventh inning. CC Sabathia threw 122 pitches in 5 2/3 innings for the Yankees. Cliff Lee (1-2) gave up one run and seven hits in six innings for the Indians. New York went 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position in the first five innings.
Chicago 3, at Tampa Bay 2: John Danks pitched six strong innings and Jermaine Dye hit a two-run home run for the White Sox. Danks (1-0) limited the Rays to two hits and had a shutout until Carlos Pena homered with one out in the sixth.
Toronto 9, at Minnesota 2: Roy Halladay pitched seven dominant innings to improve to 8-0 with a 2.77 earned-run average in his career against the Twins. The Blue Jays scored seven runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by Kevin Millar’s fourth career grand slam. Toronto has won 12 of the last 13 games against Minnesota.
Angels 5, at Seattle 1: The Angels ended the Mariners’ win streak at six.
