Oakland 9, at Boston 8 (11): The A’s, who had 21 hits, rallied with two out against Jonathan Papelbon for three runs in the ninth to tie, then scored two in the 11th. Adam Kennedy had a career-high five hits for Oakland. In a swap of outfielders, Boston traded Mark Kotsay and cash to the Chicago White Sox for Brian Anderson.
at Tampa Bay 6, New York 2: Scott Kazmir outpitched CC Sabathia to win for the first time in more than two months. After the game, the Yankees announced that pitcher Chien-Ming Wang would undergo season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his injured right shoulder today.
at Texas 7, Detroit 3: Ian Kinsler drove in three runs and rookie Elvis Andrus homered for one of his three hits.
at Seattle 4, Toronto 3: Ichiro Suzuki’s two-out, ninth-inning single gave the Mariners the victory.
Kansas City 4, at Baltimore 3 (11): The Royals have their first winning streak since July 4-6.
at Minnesota 5, Chicago 3: Mark Buehrle unraveled after retiring 45 batters in a row and the Twins moved into a tie for second place with the White Sox in the AL Central.
at Angels 7, Cleveland 6: The Angels survived the second straight shaky outing from closer Brian Fuentes.
