Re “The Right Stuff,” by Rebecca Ascher-Walsh, in The Envelope, June 1: Stephen Colbert’s performance at the 2006 White House correspondents’ dinner was a “gaffe”? Maybe it was for the Washington establishment and the mainstream media, but for everyone else it was a masterful and courageous skewering.

That performance went viral the next day to great Internet acclaim while the clueless media ignored it. Everything he said was spot-on, and he said it right to the face of the president.
