Wealth that pays

Re “Burlap is the new velvet,” June 8, and “Nightmares are coming true,” Column, June 8
First, I read the Page 1 article on the desire of the rich to look less conspicuous in their consumption, without giving up their need to be chic.
Then I read George Skelton’s Capitol Journal column on Page 2 about the increasing numbers of low-income disabled people suffering because of the draconian cuts to state services.
So I’d like to suggest to those who are fortunate to be wealthy: The next time you feel like spending $850 on an ugly lamp made out of an old broom (just because you can), shake yourself off and give that money instead to a disabled individual who can no longer afford medical care. Just because you can.
