Re “Iran says Obama’s overture not enough,” March 22
Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, understands that President Obama’s offer of friendship, offered in a Persian New Year greeting to the people of Iran, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make peace with America, the wealthiest and the most powerful country on Earth.
His grudging response to Obama is understandable. He is the leader of a proud country and wants to be treated as an equal. But if he truly desires a lasting peace for Iran, he should accept Obama’s extended hand. It might not be offered again.
