The National Park Service has acquired about 950 acres for the Flight 93 National Memorial in southwestern Pennsylvania.
It is the service’s largest single acquisition of private land for the memorial, which will be about 65 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, according to the federal announcement.
The government is also trying to acquire 500 acres through eminent domain.
The government plans a $58-million, 2,200-acre permanent memorial and national park at the crash site.
