Ticketfly and LivingSocial partner as mobile ticketing grows

Ticketfly Inc., a San Francisco-based online seller of concert tickets, is now offering deals through daily discount company LivingSocial as it expands its mobile customer base to take on Live Nation Entertainment Inc.’s Ticketmaster.
Venues and promoters that use Ticketfly can offer ticket packages, discounts and pre-sale deals through LivingSocial, which is part-owned by online retail giant Amazon.com Inc. The companies will first offer the deals in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
Ticketfly is trying to reach customers who are increasingly buying through smartphones and tablets, said Dan Teree, the company’s co-founder and chief operating officer. Ticketfly said its mobile ticket sales have increased 40% this year.

“This new partnership will be mobile-friendly as both our companies already deliver great mobile experiences for discovering new events and buying tickets,” said Teree. “Ticketfly will deliver LivingSocial customers preferred access to some of the best music and other entertainment events around the country.”
LivingSocial, which competes with giant Groupon Inc., has struggled to turn profits from daily deals and has laid off workers and closed offices recently. Still, it has been pushing into the live events business.
“Live events are a huge area of interest for LivingSocial,” said Doug Miller, senior vice president of new business development at the company.

While the deals are starting in the five big markets, the companies plan to expand the partnership to the rest of the country, said Ryan O’Connor, Ticketfly’s business development director.
Ticketfly works with Los Angeles area music venues including the Troubadour and Hollywood Forever.
