Tonys 2014: ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ wins best revival of musical

“Hedwig and the Angry Inch” starring Neil Patrick Harris was named best revival of a musical at the 68th Tony Awards presented Sunday night at Radio City Music Hall.
Emmy Award winner Harris powered each performance as Hedwig, a glamorous German-born rocker and victim of a slipshod sex change. Before performances began Harris told The Times, “You have to be so comfortable in your skin as Hedwig, and I have no idea how to accomplish that yet.”
As fate would reveal, Harris earned a Tony nomination for his performance, one of the production’s eight.
“Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” with a score by Stephen Trask, originally debuted off-Broadway in 1998.
The other nominees in the category this year were the venerable “Les Misérables” and the soul-searching tale “Violet.”
Last year’s winner in the category was coming-of-age musical “Pippin” starring Matthew James Thomas and Patina Miller.
