Danish Days The city of Solvang’s 75th annual Danish Days festival takes on special significance this year, as it also marks the town’s centennial. 23rd Annual Taste of Newport The fest offers three days to sample fare from more than 30 local restaurants, sip wine from 15 California wineries and enjoy live music — all against the backdrop of Newport Beach. This year’s musical guests include Joan Jett and the Blackhearts on Friday, the Barenaked Ladies on Saturday and a doubleheader of Taylor Dayne and ABBA: The Concert on Sunday. Irvine Park Railroad Pumpkin Patch Get the drop on the fall season at the Irvine Park Railroad Pumpkin Patch, an annual old-fashioned family shindig. Activities include train rides, a giant hay maze, a spooky Halloween bounce house, face painting, carnival games and, of course, a pumpkin patch stocked with thousands of future jack-o’-lanterns. James Brown The godfather of soul and the most sampled recording artist of all time is the focus of this exhibition, which features stage costumes, pages of handwritten lyrics, ticket stubs, concert posters, tour books and rare photographs. “Say It Loud: The Genius of James Brown” runs until Jan. 22. A Night at the Moulin Rouge: A Magical Evening in Paris There’ll be no Nicole Kidman ballads at this version of “A Night at the Moulin Rouge: A Magical Evening in Paris,” but there will be fireworks and a rowdy display of Parisian music with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. They’ll perform “An American in Paris” and other Gallic-themed classics, with the dancers from the legendary venue. Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N.
