It seems like every other day there’s a new National Food Day. Some really are deserving of an entire day’s devotion — doughnuts, mac ’n’ cheese, burgers. And some are not — beans, stuffed mushrooms, chewing gum. Seriously, Feb. 15 is National Chewing Gum Day.
Ross Resnick, chief executive of Roaming Hunger, a website devoted to helping food trucks and hungry people find each other, has decided there should be a day devoted to eating at food trucks. So he’s declared today National Eat at a Food Truck Day.
“There are a lot of food days out there and some that may be dedicated to food trucks,” said Resnick in a release. “However, we believe that National Eat at a Food Truck Day is the only food day with a direct call to action. We want food-lovers to get outside and eat at a food truck with friends, family or co-workers.”
Hundreds of food trucks across the country will participate, including the L.A. trucks Pho-King Awesome, the Burnt Truck, Dogtown Dogs, Greenspan’s Grilled Cheese, the Lobos Truck, Yeastie Boys and Son of a Bun. A full list of participating food trucks can be found at www.neaftd.com.
The idea is to get people to eat at any food truck, but if you happen to stop by a National Eat at a Food Truck Day participating truck, mention the phrase “celebrate food trucks” and you’ll get a special deal. Deals range from free drinks with the purchase of an entree to 10% off your order.
And if you’re a new Uber user who would like to Uber to your favorite food truck, use the code “foodtruck16” to get a free ride up to $20.
Tracking down a food truck in L.A. can be tricky. A couple tips for finding your favorite trucks include checking the truck’s website for a fixed schedule or checking the truck’s Twitter feed for a location. You can also use the Roaming Hunger “find trucks” feature, which uses your location to find nearby trucks.
