Brush fire near California Poppy Reserve is 70% contained

Firefighters were able to gain the upper hand Friday evening on a 300-acre brush fire near the California Poppy Reserve in Lancaster, and the blaze is now 70% contained.
Aircraft from the Los Angeles County and city fire departments as well as the U.S. Forest Service were summoned to the scene but have since been released, the county Fire Department said on Twitter.
The Poppy fire was reported to the Los Angeles County Fire Department as a light grass fire just before 2 p.m., and it quickly spread to about 300 acres, Inspector Chris Read said.
The fire was burning near Lancaster Road and 160th Street, Read said.
According to the National Weather Service, it was about 79 degrees at 4 p.m. Wind gusts of up to 23 mph were pushing the flames east toward the California Poppy Reserve. The fire is across the street from the reserve, fire officials said.
Nearly 200 firefighters were on scene.
