Man pleads not guilty to stabbing, shooting Target maintenance worker

A man pleaded not guilty Thursday to fatally stabbing and shooting a maintenance worker who was pressure washing a Target parking lot in Van Nuys, prosecutors said.
Erick Renteria, 24, is charged with one count each of murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of resisting a peace officer, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.
Prosecutors accuse Renteria of stabbing and shooting Francisco Miguel, 48, as he helped two other workers clean the store’s parking lot around 5 a.m. Tuesday.
The incident took place at the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Hatteras Street, police said.
If convicted of all counts, Renteria faces a maximum sentence of 53 years to life in state prison.
