A Burbank man was charged Wednesday afternoon with one count of murder for the alleged slaying of his 77-year-old mother, whose body was found wrapped in blankets on a dumpster, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said.
Moises Diaz, 40, was arrested Monday after the body of Maria Huezo-Diaz was found on the dumpster adjacent to her apartment building in the 4000 block of Victory Boulevard, the district attorney’s office said in a statement. Diaz lived with his mother.
Diaz was scheduled to make an appearance Wednesday afternoon at the Pasadena courthouse. Bail was recommended at $1 million, the district attorney’s office said.
HOMICIDE REPORT: A story for every victim
The district attorney’s office said the case remained under investigation by the Burbank Police Department.
Burbank Sgt. Darin Ryburn said the slaying was the city’s first homicide of 2014. Since 2007, at least 10 homicides have been reported in Burbank, according to The Times Homicide Report database.
