Huntington Beach police say a passenger who was run over Sunday by a bus may have been impaired by alcohol.
Officers found Richard Collins, 53, of Huntington Beach severely injured in the roadway at Huntington Street and Pacific Coast Highway at about 8:20 a.m. Sunday.
He was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries Tuesday, the Huntington Beach Independent reported.
Witnesses told police the Orange County Transportation Authority bus had struck the man as it was leaving a stop.
Collins had gotten off at the bus stop and, as the bus pulled away from the curb, he fell into the street and “was run over by the rear wheels,” according to a police department statement.
Authorities interviewed the 56-year-old driver at the scene. No arrests or citations have been made.
Anyone with information about the incident may contact Huntington Beach police accident investigator Tai Huynh at (714) 536-5670.
