Police are investigating a fatal shooting on a boat at a National City marina early Tuesday that occurred after a man called 911 to report an intruder.
A man aboard a 70-foot catamaran docked at the Pier 32 Marina on Marina Way called police around 4 a.m. to report an intruder on his boat, said police Sgt. Damian Ballardo.
The man, his wife and a dog had been sleeping on the boat when they were awakened by someone coming onto the vessel.
By time police arrived, the intruder had been shot and killed. His body was found by police on the boat.
It is not known if the intruder had a weapon. Investigators haven’t yet moved the body, Ballardo said.
No one else was injured. Investigators are talking with the man involved in the shooting, he said.
