Ventura County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the death of a man found with a gunshot wound Thursday in a truck near Moorpark .
Deputies received a call about 8 a.m. from someone who said a friend appeared to be suicidal, Ventura County sheriff’s Sgt. Eric Buschow said. The friend gave authorities a description of the man’s truck, but deputies were unable to make direct contact with him.
Buschow said investigators contacted the man’s cellphone provider in an effort to locate him, but the area they were given to search was “fairly wide” and they could not find him.
Around 9:40 a.m. deputies got a call reporting a man in red truck who had suffered a gunshot wound, on Grimes Canyon Road, just south of Shekell Road, Buschow said.
Buschow said investigators had not determined whether the man took his own life. His identity was not released.
