Dispute may have led to shooting that injured 4 at Portland school

A dispute involving a gang member may have led to a shooting outside a Portland, Ore., high school that left four people injured, police said.

Taylor Zimmers, 16, remained in critical condition Friday night after gunfire erupted outside Rosemary Anderson High School earlier in the day, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson, a spokesman for the Portland Police Bureau.

Labraye Franklin, 17, and David Jackson-Liday, 20, were also shot and listed in fair condition at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, and 19-year-old Olyvia Batson with a graze wound was treated at the scene and released.

The victims, who were alert and conscious after the shooting, were all affiliated with the school in some way, Simpson said.

Witnesses told police there may have been a dispute before the shooting.

Simpson described the shooter as a man with gang ties in his late teens or early 20s, and said he was accompanied by two other young men.

The victims were wounded outside the school but fled into the building seeking help. The shooter did not enter the school at any point.

Simpson said gang-related shootings are normally targeted, and he did not believe the attack was random.

Rosemary Anderson High School works with at-risk students who have been expelled from traditional high schools or have dropped out. Many of the school’s students are homeless, according to the school’s website.
