Inclement weather forces Air Force One to abort landing

The plane carrying President Obama to Connecticut was forced to abort its initial landing Wednesday because of poor weather conditions.
According to pool reporters traveling with the president on Air Force One, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed a missed approach at 9:50 a.m., citing bad visibility.
The aircraft landed safely at Bradley International Airport north of Hartford on the second try 15 minutes later, White House spokesman Nick Shapiro said, adding that it was “a standard and safe procedure.”
The press corps aboard Air Force One said they did not notice any unusual activity, but the aborted landing was spotted by other reporters on the ground.
The so-called “go around” comes nearly a month after a military aircraft transporting First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, wife of the vice president, had to abort a landing at Andrews Air Force Base after the plane drew too close to a military cargo plane landing ahead of it.
Obama is delivering the commencement address at the Coast Guard Academy in New London. Later he travels to Boston for a pair of fundraisers for his reelection campaign.
