If Metro wants more sales tax money, it should improve service first

Metro's half-cent sales tax increase would fund more than two dozen highway and transit projects across the county over the first four decades.

To the editor: Metro had better improve its existing service before asking taxpayers to fund expansion. (“Metro officials hope to pass half-cent sales tax that would not expire,” June 10)

I’ve been riding the Expo line since before the much hailed beach extension. Even before the beach extension hoopla, the trains were only four cars long and hopelessly overcrowded at rush hour. Now, with ridership higher after the extension, the trains are still only four cars long.

The result is worse than standing room-only. I’ve never experienced such a badly executed plan, not even in Manhattan.
