Baseball: Nick Pratto fuels big week for surging Huntington Beach
Two-way standout Nick Pratto becomes eligible at Huntington Beach on Monday.

Huntington Beach (13-5, 3-1) is surging, and getting eligible Nick Pratto on Monday is helping the Oilers begin to play like the No. 1 team they were in preseason rankings.
The USC commit had a home run in his first at-bat earlier this week against Newport Harbor after sitting out the first month of the season following his transfer from Santa Ana Mater Dei. Then he picked up a pitching victory against Los Alamitos. And on Friday, he hit a three-run home run and had a single in the Oilers’ 5-1 Sunset League victory over Fountain Valley.
Hagen Danner threw a complete game, striking out six.
Next up (weather permitting) is a Saturday game against host Edison. It was originally scheduled to be played as the first game on Huntington Beach’s new field.
El Camino Real 7, Taft 0: Jordan Berg threw the shutout in a West Valley League game. Eric Yang had a two-run single. The Conquistadores improved to 2-0 in league, joining Chatsworth (2-0) and Cleveland (2-0) with sweeps in the opening week of league play.
Esperanza 7, Anaheim Canyon 2: Erick Leef had three hits for the Aztecs, who are 6-0 in league play. Blake Schriever struck out six in six innings.
Oaks Christian 5, Westlake 1: Dane Morrow got the win and Holden Christian picked up the save for the Lions, who are 5-1 in the Marmonte League and in first place.
Thousand Oaks 4, Newbury Park 1: Riley Jones threw a four-hitter.
Moorpark 5, Camarillo 2: Kenny Brawner struck out six in six innings to improve to 5-0. Dillon Holliday finished with two hits. Travis Weston got the save.
Long Beach Millikan 2, Long Beach Poly 0: Spencer Steer pitched shutout ball into the seventh inning for the Moore League victory.
Alemany 4, Crespi 3: Jake Shore had two hits, including a two-run single in the sixth.
Foothill 4, Yorba Linda 1: Dillon Brown improved to 6-1 in helping Foothill regain first place in league.
Corona Santiago 3, Roosevelt 2: In eight innings, Santiago got the win. Ryan Williams had two hits.
