Boys’ basketball: Taft welcomes five transfer students

Derrick Taylor, back as head coach at Taft after a stint at St. John Bosco, could become the first basketball coach to have an entire starting lineup of transfer students while coaching at two different schools.
On the first day of school on Tuesday, Taft had five basketball transfer students on campus.
They include 6-6 Khaliff Davis from Tennessee; 6-7 Kesean Davis from Price; 6-10 Antwan January, who didn’t play last season; guard Kihei Clark from Buckley, and guard Marcel Addy from El Camino Real. Several players won’t be available until January because of transfer rules.
They’ll join 6-8 Travis Patrick, who arrived from Chatsworth last season.
It’s just another example of basketball players on the move.
But Palisades’ Ron Artest III has decided to stay after summer rumors he might be leaving.
El Camino Real lost junior Juhwan Harris, who transferred to Heritage Christian. But the Conquistadores picked up Chase Rupe from Corona Centennial.
Also, Taylor has picked up another job. He has been hired by Pilgrim School to the position of director of athletic team development. He’ll be in charge of teaching the elementary, junior and senior high how to run an athletic program.
