Football: Harvard-Westlake takes on challenge of facing unbeaten St. Francis

Four consecutive wins over City Section opponents and the return of quarterback Marshal Cohen have given a boost to Harvard-Westlake (4-1), but the Wolverines will need a lot more help to knock off unbeaten St. Francis (5-0) on Friday in their Angelus League opener at home.
“They’re definitely the class of the league by far,” Harvard-Westlake Coach Scot Ruggles said.
St. Francis has shown the ability to score against every opponent.
Harvard-Westlake has made improvement since Cohen was cleared to resume playing after suffering a knee injury last season. He’s headed to 100%. But it’s going to come down to how well the Wolverines play on defense.
Harvard-Westlake has been relying on a couple of promising sophomores who will have to grow up very fast _ Ryan Dominick and Carter Begel.
The key will be making sure St. Francis’ versatile Dylan Crawford is limited in his big plays and putting pressure on quarterback Jeremiah Martin.
Harvard-Westlake can always try to make Friday’s game a shootout, but the fewest number of points that St. Francis has scored in a game is 35.
