If you ask which first-year coach is having the biggest impact in the City Section, the answer is Eric Scott at Los Angeles High.
The Romans are 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the Exposition League. Scott, who once was an assistant coach at UCLA and was a standout receiver at Crenshaw, continues to work wonders.
Sophomore quarterback Kaymen Cureton has passed for 1,307 yards and 14 touchdowns. On Friday night, he was 14 of 22 for 300 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-13 win over Rancho Dominguez. He also ran for 50 yards.
Another top player for the Romans has been senior Richard Smith. He has 673 yards rushing.
On defense, 6-foot-2, 255-pound sophomore Martin Andrus has four sacks and 36 tackles.
Los Angeles has emerged as one of the City Section Division III title contenders. The championship game will be played on Dec. 6 at the Coliseum.
