Football: Palos Verdes gets first crack at Corona del Mar
- Share via
Corona del Mar could be headed for a long winning streak in football this season, but that depends on getting past a tough opening game in Palos Verdes on Friday afternoon.
Palos Verdes has lots of experienced players back, gets to play a day game on its home field and has a history of playing well against quality teams.
That being said, Corona del Mar and quarterback Chase Garbers had a fantastic summer competing against top teams. Now the pads are on, requiring blocking and tackling, and we’ll get to see if the team is ready to live up to the preseason hype.
The top game this weekend figures to be Chaminade taking on host Oaks Christian. Both schools are loaded with underclassmen and it’s really a sneak peek for both teams being possible top five schools in 2017. Both teams will be much better later in the season.
There’s the usual intrique whether Trinity League teams can go unbeaten in the opening week. The matchups: Mater Dei at Bishop Amat; Orange Lutheran vs. La Mirada at Orange Coast College; Servite vs. Fountain Valley at Huntington Beach; St. John Bosco vs. Cincinnati St. Xavier at the University of Cincinnati; JSerra vs. Sacramento at Saddleback College; Santa Margarita at Mission Viejo.
Here’s the link to the complete opening week schedule.
