Football: QB Travis Waller is taking his time in figuring out college choice

There’s a little bit of a rush taking place among top quarterbacks making early college commitments, but Travis Waller of Anaheim Servite intends to remain patient and make sure his decision is the right one.

“It’s been crazy,” he said. “I see about three or four coaches every day at school.”

Waller passed for 1,669 yards and 12 touchdowns and ran for 1,293 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior. He’s a former receiver making steady progress as a quarterback.

California, Northwestern, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Utah and Colorado are among his 11 scholarship offers. He’s trying to get a feel for the coaches and schools seeking his commitment. A final decision probably won’t come until the summer.

He’s part of an outstanding group of juniors at Servite being wooed by college recruiters. They’re hoping to lead the Friars to prominence in the Trinity League this fall, with defending champion St. John Bosco the big roadblock.
