Football: Upland’s Josh Woods is emerging as MVP candidate
- Share via
Add the name of Upland senior linebacker-running back Josh Woods to the candidates for MVP in Southern California football.
He’s up to 85 tackles and 10 sacks. He has scored 11 touchdowns as a running back. He’s 6 feet 3, 210 pounds and just 16 years old. He’s committed to UCLA.
“He’s fun to watch,” Upland Coach Tim Salter said. “He brings a lot of energy on both sides of the ball.”
Upland will be playing host to Vista Murrieta in a semifinal game on Friday in the West Valley Division. Upland has had trouble getting past Vista Murrieta and Corona Centennial in the semifinals. The last two years, Centennial eliminated the Highlanders in the Inland Division.
But Upland has as much talent as any Pac-5 Division team this season, and Woods’ development has been critical to the team’s success.
