Mater Dei, Santa Margarita win the Commissioner’s Cup

Santa Ana Mater Dei’s boys’ sports program and Santa Margarita’s girls’ sports program have won the Southern Section’s Commissioner’s Cup as the top sports programs for the 2013-14 school year.
The winners are determined by a point system where five points go for winning a divisional championship, three for runner-up and one point for third place in team sports.
Mater Dei accumulated 21 points to beat out Loyola, which had 19. Oaks Christian was third, Laguna Beach fourth, Harvard-Westlake fifth, followed by Palm Desert, Temecula Valley, Santa Margarita, Los Osos and Nordhoff tied Cathedral for 10th.
In girls, Santa Margarita had 18 points to beat out Oaks Christian, which had 16. Mater Dei was third, followed by Harvard-Westlake, Mira Costa, Great Oak, JSerra, Cerritos, Troy and Palos Verdes.
