Tampa Bay Rays’ Matt Moore goes on disabled list

Left-hander Matt Moore has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Tampa Bay Rays because of an elbow injury.

Moore left in the fifth inning of Monday’s 4-2 loss after feeling discomfort in his elbow while throwing a pitch to Nori Aoki. The Rays were awaiting MRI exam results.

Moore was 17-4 with a 3.29 earned-run average last year, when he was on the disabled list from July 31 to Sept. 3 because of a sore elbow.

Tampa Bay recalled left-hander Jeff Beliveau from Triple-A Durham to fill the roster spot Tuesday.

Atlanta reliever Cory Gearrin is joining the list of Braves pitchers having Tommy John surgery. Gearrin confirmed he will have the ligament-replacement surgery for his right elbow after he was injured late in spring training. The Braves previously lost starting pitchers Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy to season-ending elbow injuries this spring. ... The New York Yankees put closer David Robertson on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained groin and recalled left-handed reliever Cesar Cabral from triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. ... Kansas City second baseman Omar Infante has a sprained jaw and needed six stitches to close a cut opened when he was hit by a pitch Monday from the Rays’ Heath Bell.
