NY lawyer Tacopina resigns as Bologna club president

BOLOGNA, Italy — New York lawyer Joe Tacopina has resigned as Bologna president after just 11 months in charge due to a rift with Canadian investor Joey Saputo.
Tacopina had sued Saputo in a New York court over alleged failed payments but the parties have apparently settled their differences.
Bologna, which was promoted to Serie A in June, made the announcement on its website Sunday, saying that Tacopina and Saputo decided “to take different paths by common accord.”
The move clears the way for Saputo, already president of MLS club Montreal Impact, to also become Bologna’s president.
Tacopina, who was to bid Bologna fans goodbye at Sunday’s match against Frosinone, is reportedly interested in taking over the Venice club, which is in the fourth division.
Tacopina refused comment to The Associated Press Sunday.
