Galaxy’s Todd Dunivant, Alan Gordon left unprotected in MLS draft

The Galaxy’s celebration of its record fifth Major League Soccer title was a short one.
The team hadn’t even left Monday’s victory rally in Manhattan Beach before it learned that the gang may soon be broken up after 10 of its players were made available for Wednesday’s expansion draft.
Among the players left unprotected was veteran defender Todd Dunivant, forward Alan Gordon, defender Dan Gargan and goalies Brian Perk and Brian Rowe.
The draft is being held to fill the rosters of expansion teams in New York and Orlando, which will join the league next year. Each existing team had to make 10 players available for the draft and were allowed to protect 11 others.
Teams can lose no more than two players, however. Once that many players have been selected from a franchise’s non-protected roster, that team is eliminated from the draft.
Aside from Dunivant and Gordon, other name players left unprotected Monday included New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill and former Galaxy keeper Donovan Ricketts of Portland.
