Jayson Werth gets 10 days in jail for reckless driving in Virginia

Washington Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth was sentenced to 10 days in jail after he was convicted of a reckless driving charge in a Virginia court on Friday, officials said.
Tony Castrilli, spokesman for the Fairfax County clerk’s office, said Werth could be released in five days with good behavior. It’s not clear when Werth will have to serve the sentence.
Werth was also fined $200 and his driver’s license was suspended for six months, Castrilli said. He has appealed his conviction, according to the Associated Press.
Werth, a former All-Star who spent two seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers and won a World Series ring with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2009, was driving his Porsche at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour along the Capital Beltway earlier this year, according to the Associated Press.
An 11-year MLB veteran, Werth signed a $126-million contract with the Nationals in 2010.
