Did Nebraska really beat Northwestern, 27-24, on a last-second touchdown pass?
Hail yes.
In the day’s most exciting conclusion, and believe us this won’t be topped, Nebraska pulled out a victory with no time left on a 49-yard Hail Mary pass from Ron Kellogg III to Jordan Westerkamp.
Nebraska avoided a home loss that might have severely imperiled the future of Coach Bo Pelini.
Nebraska would have dropped to 5-3 with consecutive losses to Minnesota and Northwestern.
Instead, defeat sends Northwestern reeling back to Evanston, Ill., with its fifth loss in a row after a 4-0 start.
The game-winning play involved Kellogg, a senior from Omaha, and Westerkamp, a freshman from the Chicago suburb of Lombard, Ill.
It was Westerkamp’s first touchdown reception in college.
His Nebraska media guide bio states Westerkamp chose Nebraska over Notre Dame and several other schools, including Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State and ... Northwestern.
