Clippers’ J.J. Redick out again with hip injury

Maybe J.J. Redick could play with a sore right hip, but Clippers Coach Doc Rivers won’t give his starting shooting guard the chance to find out Wednesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Maybe Redick is healed enough to play through the injury that has improved, but he will instead listen to Rivers and miss his fourth straight game.
“I don’t think that I’ll play tomorrow. That’s what Doc says,” Redick said. “It’s a day-to-day thing. Once it comes back, it’ll be back. I’ll be back.”
With the All-Star break coming up Thursday through Sunday for the Clippers, Redick will have had two weeks off to hopefully make sure his hip is 100% healthy.
The Clippers will practice Monday afternoon and then play the San Antonio Spurs Tuesday after the All-Star break.
“I hope I practice Monday,” Redick said. “I hope things heal up over the break. That’s the goal .… So hopefully it’s Monday practice and Tuesday game.”
Redick missed 21 games this season with a broken right wrist and torn ligaments on the side of the wrist. He played with a bruised left knee, sore right shoulder and back spasms.
Redick hasn’t played since the Clippers’ game at Denver on Feb. 3.
He hasn’t done much either, especially after Rivers shut Redick down during the team’s shoot-around last Wednesday in preparation the Miami game later that night.
“There’s no point of me coming out here jumping with a ‘noodle leg,’ ” Redick said. “It feels like there is a nerve that’s not firing and it’s like a lag.”
Redick is averaging 15.7 points per game in 28.8 minutes on 45.9% shooting from the field and 39.6% from three-point range.
