Clippers’ J.J. Redick stays on the move

J.J. Redick is constantly on the move, his legs taking him all over the court.

The Clippers’ big men stay prepared to set screens for Redick, all of them aware that their shooting guard doesn’t need much space to get off one of his quick-trigger jumpers.

“Well, I’ve always been a guy who bases his game on movement and moving without the ball,” Redick said. Clippers Coach “Doc [Rivers] has a saying, ‘Energy finds the ball, energy finds scoring, energy finds assists.’ You play with energy and things tend to work out.”

So far, things have worked out nicely for Redick in his first season with the Clippers.

He’s averaging 17.3 points per game, fourth-best on the team. He’s making 50% of his field goals, 34.8% of his three-pointers. He’s also averaging 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists, all in just 29.5 minutes per game. He hasn’t missed any of his 15 free-throw attempts in the first four games.

Redick will be back at work Wednesday night when the Clippers play the Orlando Magic at Amway Center.

Redick spent his first six-plus NBA seasons playing for the Magic before he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks last season.

“He plays the right way and can handle the ball,” Chris Paul said. “It’s fun to play that way. I even tell him every time he shoots it, I expect it to go in. I get mad when he misses, so it’s a good feeling to have.”
