UC Irvine’s Mamadaou Ndiaye turns pitching mound into mole hill

Baseball has seen many big pitches --Dennis Eckersly to Kirk Gibson for example -- but it is unlikely to have seen any bigger pitchers.
Mamadou Ndiaye, the 7-foot-6 center on the UC Irvine basketball team, threw out the first pitch before the Anteaters game against Cal State Northridge on Friday.
The pitch, of course, was a bit high. Ndiaye, who is from Senegal, seemed unclear about the tradition. He didn’t win a prize. Ndiaye carried off his catcher, Irvine pitcher Matt Fielding, like he was a kewpie doll won at a carnival.
