USC recruiting: A glimpse at 2016 commits and recruits

The ink is barely dry from the 2015 class, but 2016 recruiting is underway for USC.

Three players have committed, including Ann Arbor (Mich.) Skyline High linebacker Daelin Hayes, Bellevue (Wash.) tight end Isaac Garcia and Torrance North linebacker Mique Juarez.

The Trojans have offered scholarships to three quarterbacks, Santa Margarita’s K.J. Costello, Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist’s Shea Patterson and Westlake’s Malik Henry.

Henry has committed to Florida State.

Other local players who have received offers include: Westlake receiver Theo Howard, Gardena Serra receiver Brandon Burton and defensive back C.J. Pollard, La Puente Bishop Amat receiver Tyler Vaughns and defensive back Trevon Sidney, Corona Centennial receiver Javon McKinley and Mater Dei linebacker Curtis Robinson.

Two more players in 2015

Offensive lineman Clayton Johnston and receiver Deontay Burnett are expected to join USC’s roster on the first day of fall camp as blue-shirt recruits.

Their scholarships will count toward the 2016 recruiting class.

Johnston, from Anaheim Servite High, committed in July but is considered a non-recruited player because he did not take an official visit or play host to an in-home visit with coaches.

Burnett became the fourth Gardena Serra player to commit to USC on national signing day. Linebacker John Houston and defensive lineman Rasheem Green are scholarship players. Tight end Caleb Wilson, son of defensive line coach Chris Wilson, will walk on.

Burnett, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound receiver, was once committed to Washington State.
