Here’s a chance to dine with the Roy behind Roy’s restaurants. Roy Yamaguchi, Hawaii’s first James Beard Award-winning chef who pioneered regional Hawaiian-Asian fusion fare, will host an “imaginative luau” buffet at his namesake restaurant in Pebble Beach, Calif.
The dinner at Roy’s inside The Inn at Spanish Bay on Sept. 25 is open to the public. Guests will have an opportunity to schmooze with Yamaguchi and have cookbooks autographed while overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The restaurant’s executive chef, Pablo Mellin, will be overseeing the kitchen too.
And the menu? It’s not finalized yet, but it may serve classic Roy’s dishes such as blackened rare ahi with spicy soy mustard butter sauce, hibachi grilled salmon and black-red pepper grilled rib-eye steak.
Diners can count on sushi, sashimi and seafood items with “from the land” options like duck and rib-eye steak with a twist. The meal comes with wines from a number of local vineyards, including Bernardus Winery, Boekenoogen Winery, Caraccioli Cellars and others.
Each guest receives a flower lei, and the Ho’omana Hawaiian Band, a fire dancer and Tahitian and hula dancers will perform during the evening.
Tickets cost $165 per person, $48 for children 10 and younger. (There’s no additional fee to enter Pebble Beach for this event.)
Reservations are required.
