New SLS Las Vegas hotel to open Aug. 23, a week early

Surprise! A new Las Vegas resort will open six days ahead of schedule, it has announced.
SLS Las Vegas will welcome guests beginning Aug. 23. Previously, a Labor Day weekend opening had been planned. (Labor Day is Sept. 1.)
The new property at Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara Avenue will be the third SLS-branded hotel. The two others are in Beverly Hills and Miami Beach.
The resort will include features for which parent company Sbe is well known, such as the Sayers Club, a live music venue, and Foxtail, a nightclub and lounge.
Several restaurants already familiar to many Southern Californians will make their Las Vegas debuts inside SLS. They include the Bazaar by Jose Andres, Griddle Cafe and Katsuya.
The 1,600-room hotel will occupy the footprint of the former Sahara hotel and casino, which opened in 1952 and was among the first hotels along what is now the Strip. (In the ‘50s, it was called the Los Angeles Highway.)
Reservations can be made on the resort’s website. Rooms for opening night start at $224, but the price drops to $166.50 a night for a two-night stay.
