Canada: VIA Rail to offer streaming video between Windsor and Quebec

Beginning in July, travelers on VIA Rail, the national passenger railroad of Canada, will be able to enjoy streaming video free of charge.
The service will be available in the corridor between Windsor, Ontario, and Quebec City. That includes the popular line linking the country’s two largest cities, Toronto and Montreal.
The streaming video – accessible on smartphones, tablets, and laptops – will be provided in partnership with the National Film Board and the CBC, Canada’s public broadcaster. The selection of programs, available in both English and French, will include newscasts, Canadian TV shows and documentaries and animated films from the Film Board archives.
The on-board entertainment will also include the “Heritage Minute” series of short films about the country’s history.
Since 2007, Canada’s government has spent nearly $1 billion on transforming the rail passenger service to meet the needs of current and future travelers.
VIA has offered complimentary Wi-Fi on its trains for the past two years.
