Laugh it up with comedian Wanda Sykes at Treasure Island

Reporting from Las Vegas — Comedian Wanda Sykes brings her stand-up comedy routine to the Treasure Island Theatre on Sept. 25. This isn’t meant for the kids. The resort warns that guests must be 18 years or older to attend.

The Washington native started her comedic career performing at the Coors Light Super Talent showcase. She also spent five years performing and writing for HBO’s “Chris Rock Show,” where she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special in 1999.

That gig opened the door to appearances on television shows such as “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Crank Yankers,” where she voiced the character Gladys Murphy. She starred in her own show “Wanda at Large.”

Her collection of essays, ”Yeah, I Said That,” covering family, current events and life came out in 2004, followed by her own HBO comedy special, “Wanda Sykes; Sick and Tired” in 2006.

She even had her own late-night talk show, “The Wanda Sykes Show,” on Fox.

Sykes doesn’t limit herself to the stage. She appeared in “Evan Almighty” with Steve Carrell, “Monster-In-Law” and “My Super Ex-Girlfriend,” and voiced characters in “Over the Hedge,” “The Barnyard” and the “Ice Age” movies.

Most recently, she starred with John Goodman in Garry Trudeau’s “Alpha House” as Sen. Rosalyn DuPeche and worked as a writer and producer for the eighth season of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.”
