Typhoon Meranti barrels into mainland China
An overturned fishing boat lies in the aftermath of Typhoon Meranti in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Parts of Taiwan came to a standstill as the powerful storm brought the strongest winds the country has seen in 21 years. China issued a red alert for waves as the storm bore down on the mainland.
