Most of the Angels didn’t get to bed until after 4 a.m. Thursday, but they were back in the Fenway Park clubhouse by 11 Thursday morning.
“Coffee, coffee and more coffee,” Torii Hunter said, wiping at tired eyes.
After beating the Boston Red Sox for the first time this season in a five-hour, 13-inning game that was delayed two hours and 35 minutes by rain, the Angels had a getaway-day afternoon game at Fenway on Thursday. Still, Manager Mike Scioscia kept most of his regulars in the lineup. Hunter, who went the distance in right field the night -- and morning -- before was the designated hitter Thursday, with Bobby Abreu starting in the outfield for the fifth time this season. Abreu won Wednesday’s game with a two-run, bases-loaded single off Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Jeff Mathis, who finished the game behind the plate, was there again Thursday morning, but Maicer Izturis, still bothered by a sore left hamstring, was out of the lineup.
The Angels’ bullpen is a little thin with Trevor Bell and Scott Downs likely unavailable after long outings the night before.
