A 5-year-old boy drowned Saturday after he apparently wandered into a lake at Harbor Regional Park in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County while on a holiday weekend outing, police said.
Shortly before he disappeared, Jorge Quintero was seen playing in the shallow water of Harbor Lake by an adult neighbor who had brought the boy and his 8-year-old brother to the park, police said.
At 7 p.m., one hour after the boy was last seen, a county lifeguard diving team found him in the lake, which is near Pacific Coast Highway and Vermont Avenue in the Harbor City area.
He was rushed to Kaiser Medical Center, where he was on life-support machinery for two hours before being declared dead, Harbor Division Sgt. John Hanna said.
