SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs have signed first-round draft pick Alfredrick Hughes to a contract, General Manager Bob Bass announced Thursday.
Bass declined to reveal terms of the contract for Hughes, a 6-foot 5-inch forward from Loyola University in Chicago.
Hughes’ signing comes on the heels of a contract agreement between the Spurs and second-round pick Mike Brittain, a 7-1 center from South Carolina.
“I am impressed with his attitude,” Bass said of Hughes. “He really wants to be a player and he wanted to get the contract signed so he could be in our rookie camp next week. He is so intense. He is a no-nonsense type guy who wants to be an NBA player.”
Hughes was the 14th player picked overall in the June 18 NBA draft. He averaged 26.3 points a game last season to rank second in the NCAA.
