The Region : Liquor Store Limits Asked

Strict regulations to prevent the clustering of liquor stores in low-income areas have been recommended by the county Regional Planning Commission. After a series of public hearings and discussions, the commission urged the Board of Supervisors to alter zoning ordinances to limit the number of liquor stores allowed in a certain geographic area, and to support legislation aimed at stiffer liquor licensing procedures. The commission’s recommendations are limited to unincorporated areas of the county. A proposed state law, introduced by Assemblywoman Marian La Follette (R-Northridge) and supported by the commission, would keep liquor stores from saturating an area or from opening near churches, schools and playgrounds.
