Strike Hits Public Transit in Greece

ATHENS — Hundreds of thousands of Greek workers protesting wage and spending cuts by the Socialist government staged a 24-hour strike Thursday, disrupting public transit and shutting many factories.
The strike, the second major protest since the government introduced a package of austerity measures Oct. 11, was called by the General Confederation of Greek Workers, which represents more than 1.5 million people.
All flights of state-owned Olympic Airways were canceled, trains and most buses stopped running and banks and pharmacies closed.
