WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Girls’ finishing school headmistress-turned-murderer Jean Harris today renounced her claim to $220,000 left to her by the man she killed, Scarsdale diet doctor Herman Tarnower, and has written a personal letter to Gov. Mario Cuomo asking for clemency.
Harris’ lawyer, Michael Kennedy, appeared in Westchester County Surrogate Court today to formally enter the renunciation. He also said she wrote the letter about 10 days ago, saying her health was poor and pointing out that she has done “good work” in prison with the children of fellow prisoners.
