Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative Party said Labor’s commitment to remove all nuclear arms from Britain, including U.S.-made North Atlantic Treaty Organization missiles, would wreck the Atlantic Alliance. Party Chairman Norman Tebbit defended the government’s pro-American policy at the annual party convention at Bournemouth. He said the Labor Party has developed “a policy bound to fatally undermine NATO, the alliance which has preserved the peace and freedom we have enjoyed in West Europe for 40 years.”
