Jet Crashes in Attempt to Land on Aircraft Carrier

NORFOLK, Va. — A Navy F-14 Tomcat jet fighter attempting a night landing on the aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy hit a parked plane and crashed into the Mediterranean Sea, an official said Sunday. The pilot, Lt. Cmdr. J. W. Orrison of Virginia Beach, and the flight officer, Lt. Michael Valen of North Plymouth, Minn., who were rescued after ejecting from the plane, suffered minor injuries in the Saturday incident.
